Atormin 50 mg is a prescription cardioselective beta blocker containing atenolol. This pack contains 28 tablets and is used to lower blood pressure, reduce the heart workload and control selected angina or rhythm disorders according to the diagnosis.
Approved uses:
• Management of high blood pressure.
• Management of angina pectoris and selected cardiac arrhythmias.
• Early treatment in selected acute myocardial infarction settings and long term prevention after recovery when prescribed.
Therapeutic role:
Atenolol blocks cardiac beta 1 receptors, slowing the heart rate and reducing cardiac workload and oxygen demand. The expected result is lower blood pressure, fewer exertional angina symptoms and improved rate control in suitable rhythm disorders.
Active ingredient and composition:
Each tablet contains atenolol 50 mg. The complete inactive ingredient list should be checked in the leaflet supplied with the local Atormin pack if the patient has a known allergy or intolerance.
How to use:
Take exactly as prescribed, commonly once daily for hypertension or angina, but the regimen varies for arrhythmia, after myocardial infarction and in kidney impairment. Take at a consistent time with water. Check pulse or blood pressure if instructed. Do not stop atenolol abruptly because sudden withdrawal can worsen angina or trigger serious cardiac events. Do not double a missed dose.
Important safety information:
Pulse, blood pressure and kidney function may require monitoring. Do not use without specialist review in very slow pulse, significant heart block, cardiogenic shock or uncontrolled heart failure. Tell the prescriber about asthma, poor circulation, diabetes, thyroid disease and all other heart medicines. Atenolol can mask some symptoms of low blood glucose or overactive thyroid. Seek advice for fainting, wheezing, severe breathlessness or rapidly worsening swelling.
Medical disclaimer:
This prescription medicine must be used only for the patient and condition for which it was prescribed. The information provided supports, but does not replace, the local package leaflet or the advice of a physician or pharmacist. Seek urgent medical care for a severe allergic reaction, breathing difficulty, fainting, uncontrolled bleeding, or rapidly worsening symptoms.
