Zygrel 75 mg is a prescription antiplatelet medicine containing clopidogrel. This 28 tablet pack reduces the ability of platelets to clump together and is used to help prevent harmful arterial blood clots in patients with a defined cardiovascular indication.

Approved uses:
• Secondary prevention after a recent myocardial infarction, ischaemic stroke or in established peripheral arterial disease.
• Acute coronary syndrome or coronary stent regimens, commonly with aspirin when directed by the cardiology team.
• Selected prevention of atherothrombotic and thromboembolic events in atrial fibrillation when the approved criteria are met.

Therapeutic role:
Clopidogrel irreversibly blocks platelet P2Y12 receptors, reducing platelet aggregation for the life of the affected platelet. It lowers the risk of recurrent arterial clotting events in the approved settings but does not dissolve an existing clot and increases bleeding tendency.

Active ingredient and composition:
Each tablet contains clopidogrel 75 mg. The salt form and complete inactive ingredient list should be checked in the leaflet supplied with the local Zygrel pack if the patient has an allergy or intolerance.

How to use:
Take exactly as prescribed, usually one 75 mg tablet once daily with or without food. A loading dose is used only in specific acute coronary situations under direct medical instruction. Take at the same time each day and do not stop, even for dental work or surgery, unless the prescriber advises when and how to interrupt it. Do not double a missed dose.

Important safety information:
Bleeding may take longer to stop. Report unusual or prolonged bleeding and tell every doctor or dentist before a procedure. Omeprazole and esomeprazole can reduce clopidogrel activation; do not start or stop them without advice. NSAID painkillers, anticoagulants and other antiplatelets can increase bleeding risk. Urgent assessment is required for vomiting blood, black stools, blood in urine, severe headache with weakness, unexplained fever with bruising or neurological change.
