Aspirin Protect 100 mg is a low dose gastro resistant antiplatelet medicine containing acetylsalicylic acid. It reduces the ability of platelets to stick together and is used in appropriate adults to help prevent arterial blood clots linked to heart attack, ischaemic stroke and certain vascular procedures. This 100 mg presentation is not intended for routine pain or fever relief.

Approved uses:
• Secondary prevention after myocardial infarction when prescribed as part of cardiovascular care.
• Prevention of recurrent transient ischaemic attacks or ischaemic stroke in suitable patients.
• Antiplatelet protection after selected coronary or arterial procedures and in other high risk situations identified by a clinician.

How it works:
Low dose acetylsalicylic acid irreversibly inhibits platelet cyclooxygenase and reduces thromboxane A2 formation, limiting platelet aggregation for the lifespan of the platelet.

Active ingredient and composition:
Each gastro resistant tablet contains acetylsalicylic acid 100 mg. Verified excipients include powdered cellulose, maize starch, methacrylic acid copolymer coating, talc and triethyl citrate; formulations can vary by market, so the local leaflet remains the final reference for excipients.

How to use:
Use only after medical assessment. A common long term regimen is one 100 mg tablet once daily, but the exact dose and duration depend on the indication. Swallow the gastro resistant tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. If chest pain or stroke symptoms occur, seek emergency help immediately rather than relying on this product for acute treatment.

Important safety information:
Do not use with active bleeding, an active stomach or duodenal ulcer, a serious bleeding disorder, aspirin or NSAID allergy, or aspirin triggered asthma. Discuss anticoagulants, other antiplatelets, ibuprofen and other NSAIDs, steroids, methotrexate, kidney or liver disease, gout, planned surgery, pregnancy and breastfeeding before use. Black stools, vomiting blood, unusual bleeding or wheezing require urgent review. Do not give to anyone under 16 unless specifically prescribed.
