Agiolax Granules is a combined bulk-forming and stimulant laxative for short-term treatment of constipation.

Ingredients and Composition: Each 5 g contains ispaghula seed 2.6 g, ispaghula husk 0.11 g and Tinnevelly senna pods 0.337–0.658 g, equivalent to 15 mg hydroxyanthracene derivatives calculated as sennoside B. Each 5 g also contains approximately 1.05 g sucrose.

Directions for Use: Adults, older people and adolescents over 12 years: the usual regimen is 5 g in the morning and 5 g in the evening; the daily amount may be taken as one dose, but must not exceed 10 g. Use the lowest dose that produces comfortable stool passage. Swallow unchewed while upright with 1–2 glasses of liquid, preferably in the evening but not immediately before bed. Separate other oral medicines by 30–60 minutes. Do not use for more than 1 week.

Safety Information: Flatulence, bloating, abdominal cramps or diarrhoea may occur. Inadequate fluid can cause choking or obstruction. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with swallowing difficulty, intestinal obstruction, acute unexplained abdominal pain or severe dehydration. Prolonged senna use can cause electrolyte imbalance and laxative dependence; sucrose content is relevant in diabetes and hereditary sugar-intolerance disorders.
