A trained healthcare professional inserts the implant under the skin of the inner upper arm and removes or replaces it by the recorded replacement date. Confirm the implant can be felt after insertion and seek assessment if it cannot be located, appears bent or broken, or pregnancy is suspected.

Irregular, prolonged or absent bleeding, headache, acne, breast tenderness, mood change or insertion-site pain may occur.
