Tymlos is a prescription bone forming treatment containing abaloparatide. It is used for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fracture, including those who did not respond to or cannot tolerate other treatments, and to increase bone density in men with osteoporosis at high fracture risk.

Approved uses:
• Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fracture.
• Use in postmenopausal women who failed or could not tolerate other available osteoporosis therapy.
• Increase of bone density in men with osteoporosis at high risk of fracture or with inadequate alternatives.

How it works:
Abaloparatide is an analogue of human parathyroid hormone related peptide. Once daily exposure activates the PTH1 receptor in a pattern that stimulates osteoblast activity and new bone formation.

Active ingredient and composition:
Each metered dose delivers abaloparatide 80 mcg in 40 microlitres. The single patient pen contains 3,120 mcg in 1.56 ml and provides 30 daily doses. Inactive ingredients include acetic acid, phenol, sodium acetate trihydrate and water for injection.

How to use:
Inject 80 mcg under the skin once daily into the periumbilical abdomen, rotating the site each day, exactly as trained. The first doses should be given where the patient can sit or lie down because dizziness or postural hypotension may occur. Inspect the solution and do not use it if cloudy, coloured or particulate. Calcium and vitamin D should be supplemented if dietary intake is inadequate. Use for more than two years during a patient's lifetime is not recommended.

Important safety information:
Avoid in patients at increased risk of osteosarcoma, including Paget disease or other metabolic bone disease, bone metastases or skeletal cancer, previous skeletal radiation, hereditary osteosarcoma risk or open growth plates. It is not indicated for children, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Discuss high calcium, hyperparathyroidism, kidney stones and kidney impairment. Palpitations, marked dizziness or persistent bone pain or a new lump requires medical review.
