AXEPTA 18 mg Hard Capsules – 30 Capsules

What it is and what it is used for
AXEPTA is a prescription, non-stimulant medicine containing atomoxetine. Each hard capsule provides 18 mg of atomoxetine as atomoxetine hydrochloride. It is used as part of a comprehensive treatment programme for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children aged 6 years and older, adolescents and adults. By selectively inhibiting noradrenaline reuptake, atomoxetine can improve attention and reduce impulsivity and hyperactivity. Full improvement may take several weeks.

Important safety warning
In short-term atomoxetine studies in children and adolescents, suicidal thinking was reported in 0.4% (5 of 1,357) of atomoxetine-treated patients versus 0 of 851 given placebo; no suicides occurred. Events appeared early, especially in the first month. Families and caregivers should watch closely for suicidal thoughts or behaviour, worsening symptoms, agitation, irritability or unusual behavioural changes, particularly when treatment starts or the dose changes. Obtain urgent medical help if any of these occur or if the patient may be in immediate danger.

When it must not be used
Do not use with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), or within 14 days before or after one; in narrow-angle glaucoma; pheochromocytoma; severe heart or blood-vessel disease that may worsen if blood pressure or heart rate rises; or allergy to atomoxetine or another ingredient. The prescriber must know about heart or blood-pressure problems, liver disease, seizures, bipolar disorder, mania, psychosis, urinary problems, pregnancy, breastfeeding and every medicine being used.

Monitoring and storage
Blood pressure and pulse should be checked before treatment, after dose changes and periodically. Height, weight and appetite should be followed in children and adolescents. Store below 30°C and keep out of the sight and reach of children.
